Thanks Rocky, nice diagram! Looks easy to me. Its job 4 on the list today.

Now maybe if this cold front would beat it, I could go try out my new SC seat!

You don't need to remove the plastics, but it does make it much easier.

gsatterw, thanks for the pic. I've been having a crazy problem with my seat. Solving it is one of my weekend projects. Did you have to remove the side plastic pieces to get to what you are showing above? It seems like you have to remove two pieces on each side of the bike and then the metal bar that covers what you are showing above. Thanks

Yes, got it. Easy fix. Just remove the top two screws on each side panel so you can ease them out of the way to access the screws on each end of the cross bar.

I used 1 washer under each screw holding the lock in place and bent the arm up a little and it works like a charm. Thanks all.

So, I managed to get it open! My new technique- turn key, lift seat off the lock and then with open palms or bottom of fists firmly hit the two ends of the rider's portion of the seat. The motion should be from front to the back of the bike. This pops the seat open immediately which springs out of whatever is holding it down. Its definitely the oddest way I have had to employ to open a motorcycle seat!
When you say riders portion what do you mean… first rider or pillion ? My seat is stuck and it seems the back latch isn’t letting go

Anyone having issues removing the seat? I have always had to struggle to remove it and now after a few days, I can't remove it at all!
Is there a trick that I am missing? This can't be that hard- its always been easy removing seats till I met the FZ09!
It is usually one of the most difficult parts of any maintenance on my 2016. It doesn’t matter if I have the stock seat or aftermarket they’re all a PIA to remove or replace.
Speak of seats I put the stock seat back on and other than sitting up a smidge higher it’s not too bad.
